E30 Profile: Grandview Tavern
Colleen Haws grew up in Northern Kentucky and dreamed of owning her own restaurant/bar while working for a major corporation in Cincinnati. As changes began to unfold with that employer in 2006, Colleen began the journey of figuring out how to transform her dream to real life. Grandview Tavern, located in Ft. Mitchell, KY, is the popular place to meet, eat, and enjoy a drink, just as Colleen had envisioned.
When asked about the mission of her company, Colleen explains that Grandview Tavern strives to provide a unique, casual, friendly atmosphere where people gather for special occasions, business meetings, and for enjoying life. It is THE place to enjoy a fine dining experience in a casual atmosphere.
Colleen has had to overcome unexpected challenges, just like so many other small business owners. She overcame the hurdles presented by the economy, as fewer people were eating out, by offering consistent, quality, fresh food in a comfortable, relaxing environment. She also built relationships with loyal patrons, who have created an “everybody knows your name” and “everyone is welcome here” atmosphere to her establishment.
The Emerging 30 experience, as Colleen tells, “reminded me to never lose focus of our mission and to always set new goals. Sometimes through everyday trials, we become complacent and forget to reevaluate situations. The E30 process reminds us that business requires you to be a step ahead of the competition.”
