Legion Logistics, LLC, headquartered in Florence, KY, started in 2009. The third-party logistics company is owned and operated by co-owners Lacy Starling and Antony Coutsoftides. The Legion’s 30 full-time employees work every day to find creative, cost-effective transportation solutions for their customers. "We keep working until the job is done and the customer is happy," said Coutsoftides.
The biggest challenge they face day-to-day, Starling said, is finding good salespeople. The Legion’s Problem Solvers are expected to be tough, self-directed, friendly, detail-oriented and generally awesome. "Finding all of these traits in one person can be difficult.”
Taking care of herself is one of the most important business lessons Starling has learned as an entrepreneur. "If I'm not functioning at 100%, my company can't function at 100%." She constantly strives to find balance and take time to spend with family and friends, and she encourages her employees to do the same.
The growth of the Legion has already led to an office move and an additional expansion, both of which were accomplished with an unrelenting eye on the bottom line. Instead of fancy furniture and décor, the Legion's current office in Florence is filled with basic furniture assembled by the owners and employees. In fact, that's Starling’s best advice to others thinking of starting a business, "Save twice as much as you think you'll need, and only spend money on the things that make you money."
